Before she started her half day morning playgroup, somehow I already have this feeling that she would have a tougher time adapting compared to Ashton. Most would be surprised since Ashley has always been seen as the "stronger, brave" one. But as her mummy, I know this well. Ashley is a focused, fast, quick-thinking, knows what she wants type of girl. A little bit of my genes I guess...haha, although papa may disagree. So, if she does not want to be in a strange environment with teachers and other kids, she will struggle like hell! And indeed, it was and to a certain extent, still is.
Jan - first day when we left her there unaccompanied, she cried and struggled so much, we could hear her from the roadside. That's how loud she was!
Jan - Surprise! When I asked her if she wanted to go to school, she said "yes" and wanted to carry her school bag. We thought, okay, not too bad a start, at least did not detest going to school.
Jan - Reality set in, she didn't want to go to school and started to cling on my helper because she knew if she stayed with the helper, she would not be going to school. Started to wake up at night crying. 3 times a night, very tiring on papa who was the one pacifying her.
Jan - Similar crying session when we left her in the morning. Her teacher sms me and said she tried to participate in the activities. Fell down at the playground too, thank God, she was not really hurt, just a little cut on the lips. Continue to have nightmare.
Jan - Better today according to teacher, she allowed her teacher to carry her when we left the school. Crying lesser in class, joined in class activities and even taking her lunch independently. Apparently, she even told her classmate not to cry as his mummy would be coming to get him soon. Unfortunately, still couldn't sleep well at night.
and 16 Jan - She didn't want to go out even though we told her there's no school. She rather stay at home with the helper - this is a big thing for my outgoing gal.
Jan - Worst we have seen! She struggled so much in the morning when we were leaving home. Pretty hysterical, refused to go to school! This drove Papa mad and hit her hands. Coming from the Papa who dotes on her and never ever want to beat her, I could imagine the frustration. Teacher told us perhaps its Monday blues. According to her teacher, she cried during transition period like moving from one place to another except when they went to the playground. She also cried at night when we were getting into the car heading home from inlaws place. She just didn't want to be in the car for fear that we would be bringing her to school.
Jan - Again she tried to repeat the same morning procedure. Papa tried another method to talk to her nicely, like an adult. Carrying her, he looked her in the eyes and asked her "Why don't you spend some time thinking why you must do this instead of spending so much time crying"? She looked at Papa and suddenly recollect herself and stopped crying. Then Papa continued to tell her she must be happy, think of happy things. My God, I can't believe it, Ashley actually could understand and started to behave normally, didn't cry a wee bit in the car. Good job Papa! When we left her in school, she cried a little but was mostly alright. This is the picture that her teacher took of her today. She looked pretty happy huh?
My prayer for my little gal is that she will learn to like going to school, participates in activities, learns well (her school fees are not cheap!), teachers will look at her with favour and she will grow up to be a confident and knowledgeable girl. Amen!
